Documents needed for the PM Surya Ghar subsidy

Getting your paperwork right up front is the single biggest way to avoid delays in your solar subsidy. Here's the full checklist and the step-by-step process.

Document checklist

Latest electricity bill

Proves your consumer number, DISCOM, and that the connection is in your name.

Proof of identity (Aadhaar)

Standard KYC for the applicant.

PAN card

For the subsidy disbursal and financial verification.

Bank account details / cancelled cheque

The subsidy is credited directly to this account.

Proof of roof ownership

Property tax receipt, sale deed, or an NOC if the property isn't in your name.

Passport-size photograph

Commonly required with the application form.

Application process, step by step

  1. 1

    Register on the national portal

Create an account on pmsuryaghar.gov.in with your state, DISCOM, and electricity consumer number.

  2. 2

    Apply for rooftop solar

Submit your application with the required documents (checklist below) and wait for feasibility approval from your DISCOM.

  3. 3

Get it installed by an approved vendor

Choose an MNRE-empanelled / DISCOM-registered installer. Only systems installed by approved vendors qualify for the subsidy.

  4. 4

    Apply for net metering

After installation, your DISCOM inspects the system and installs a bidirectional (net) meter.

  5. 5

Receive subsidy in your bank account

Once commissioned and verified, the central subsidy is credited directly to your bank account, typically within 30-45 days.
